Lay participants are the lay leaders for the Sunday liturgy at St. Paul’s, for weekday services such as the Wednesday healing service, and for special services such as Evensong. All who are interested in volunteering to assist in leading the liturgy should contact the Coordinator of Liturgical Leaders.
Acolytes lead the procession with cross and torches, take part in the gospel procession, and help out during the service by bringing water, lavabo bowl, etc., to the presider at the altar. Acolytes may be age 10 through adult, and may serve at the 9:15 or 11:15 services.
Lectors read the lessons (Lesson and Epistle) and lead the Prayers of the People at each of the Sunday services.
Eucharistic Ministers are one of the three sacred ministers at the altar (with the presider and deacon) during the 8:00 and 11:15 services. They assist the presider and deacon at the altar, hold the gospel book for the deacon and administer the chalice at Communion.
Vergers are the “masters of ceremony.” They set up the chancel for the service, direct the processions, give cues and watch for problems, and administer the chalice at Communion when needed.
Altar Guild cares for the silver and vestments. Two or three members, rotating each month, wash up after services, and all work together to polish the silver and dust the chancel before Christmas and Easter. For more information, contact the director of the Altar Guild.
Flower Guild creates the flower arrangements for church each week, and for special occasions. Contact the director of the Flower Guild.
Ushers Welcome people to St. Paul’s, hand out bulletins and assist people to their seats. They offer hospitality to newcomers, help to coordinate space set up, and assist with various parts of the service (offertory and communion). |
