The Episcopal Church asserts that “all Communicants of this Church who for the previous year have been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and have been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God, are to be considered communicants in good standing.” St. Paul’s Cathedral affirms this statement with the understanding that at baptism, we are called into full involvement in the community of faith, through our presence, our participation, and our pledge. |

Participation We believe that being part of a community of faith involves commitment to living out our baptism 24/7. Each Sunday, at the conclusion of the Eucharist, the deacon calls us to “go in peace, to love and serve the Lord.” It is in living out this call — in an infinite variety of ways, ranging from outreach volunteering to committee work to participation in educational programs and beyond — that St. Paul’s Cathedral understands the second tenet of membership. Participation in the life of the community includes involvement in the life of the parish, as well as dedication to serving the community beyond, through gradually coming to understand our gifts and offering them to God and to God’s people. |
|
Pledge We believe in a generous God who gives us time, abilities, and material resources, and who calls us to share these gifts — by addressing the needs of the poor, advocating for the creation of a just society, proclaiming the Good News and promoting peace, and wisely using the natural resources of God’s creation. And we believe that God calls us to share these gifts by supporting financially the ministry of Jesus Christ through St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Diocese of Vermont, and the wider Church. We are called to give to God from what has been given to us, to support the mission and ministry of this community of faith and the wider community. Our pledge, therefore, is the third tenet of membership in the life of St. Paul’s Cathedral. |

Presence We believe that Sunday worship is at the center of our life as a Christian community. St. Paul’s Cathedral is an active community that prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love among all people. It is on Sunday morning each week that we are called to gather in God’s name, proclaim and respond to the Word of God, pray for the world and for the Church, exchange the peace, consecrate the “stuff” of everyday life, break bread, share the gifts of God, and join in fellowship. It is through our presence on Sunday mornings, gathered in the community of faith, that we begin to live out our call as Christians and our membership in this community. |
