Adult Formation Programs

The questions don’t stop after age 18—in fact, many might agree that our hunger for faith-based conversation and spiritual exploration only grows as we age.   Adult Formation at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul’s helps feed this hunger every week during the program year (Start-Up Sunday until the end of May).  We meet on Sunday mornings at 10 in the Commons Room beginning September 14.    Ranging from discussions about books we are reading together, to focused Bible study, to topical issues like environmental theology or what a Christian politics might look like, Adult Formation promises great conversation (and coffee!).   Typically, four to six Sundays will be dedicated to a theme, but we’re happy to have people join the conversation at any point—no homework involved!  We welcome everyone (even people who haven't read the book!).  Here is a brief preview of this fall's offerings:

Summer Reading for Fall Adult Forum.  A discussion of the summer read, Lauren Winner's Girls Meets God.  September 14 - October 5.  In addition to these four Sunday morning discussions, we will hold one session on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m., also in the Commons Room.

The Balm in Gilead - October 12-26.  The optional book to accompany this series on healing and touch is Snake Oil: The Art of Healing and Truth-telling, by Becca Stevens.

Sharon Ely Pearson, special guest - November 2.

Hearing the Psalms - November 9-23.  Our text for this three-week series will be the Psalms as we embark on an introductory exploration of this rich collection of poems.

Advent: Waiting for Light in the Darkness - December 7-21.  Our text for Advent this year will be Barbara Brown Taylor's powerful new book, Learning to Walk in the Dark.
