Cathedral Choirs

Adult Choir
The Cathedral Choir of adults is composed of 25 to 30 singers, who gather weekly on Thursday evenings to practice for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Eucharist. This dedicated group of musicians sings on Sunday mornings September-May, as well as offering music at occasional Choral Evensong, Taizé Evening Prayer, the services of Holy Week, and the liturgy of the Great O Antiphons of Advent. It's joyful work and they are a devoted and loving musical community, who bring a strong sense of the glory of God to the Cathedral's worship life.

Youth Choirs
The youth choirs at the Cathedral provide a comprehensive training program for young singers, affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM).
Children begin as Novices in grade 2. They practice one afternoon a week for a half hour, learning basic concepts of rhythm, pitch and "choircraft."

Trebles, in grades 3-5, practice for two 40-minute afternoon rehearsals each week. In addition, each Treble has a 15-minute biweekly one-on-one tutorial to work toward a light-blue, dark-blue, or red ribbon in the RSCM Chorister Training Program. The Treble Choir focuses on single singing, vocal skills, ear training, and musical leadership in worship.
The Canterbury Ensemble is a lively group of singers in grades 6-12. The Ensemble practices for one hour weekly, followed by pizza. By the time the children have come through the Treble Choir program and moved into Canterbury Ensemble, they typically have acquired good sight-singing skills, so they learn lots of repertoire. They sing well and have fun. Each Sunday, the Trebles and Canterburies join forces to sing together at the 9:00 AM Eucharist.
Each of these choirs is a vital and animated part of life at St. Paul's Cathedral. For information about membership, please contact Mark Howe, Director of Music and Canon Precentor, at mhowe@stpaulscathedralvt.org.
